Founded in 2018, Queer Frontiers was set up as a statement of ARTIQ’s solidarity with LGBTQ+ artists from all around the world.
The inaugural year saw the leading art consultancy take over a pop-up space on iconic Old Compton Street - supported by Pride in London - to provide a platform and showcase the outstanding talents of a diverse range of international artists.
In 2019, QF was co-sponsored by Hiscox. Setting up shop in the former home of legendary Soho nightclub Madame JoJo’s, Queer Frontiers profiled the work of 26 LGBTQ+ artists and allies in a week long exhibition and curated programme of events in celebration of Pride week.
The programme kicked off with an exclusive collector’s view and opening party, where artists, collectors, activists and industry members had the opportunity to view and purchase the work. The exhibition was open to the public throughout Pride, offering visitors to London a snapshot into its diverse and creative LGBTQ+ community and the chance to take part in a variety of events including Life Drawing classes and a Pride Parade party.
Queer Frontiers 2019 raised a total of £27,000 for LGBTQ+ charities Albert Kennedy Trust and Switchboard.
We are back stronger than ever for 2020 and would like to thank our partners, Sassy Digital and Hiscox as well as the artists who have made this online exhibition a reality.
ARTIQ was set up in 2009 by CEO Patrick McCrae with the aim of bringing great art to great spaces by facilitating the commissioning, buying and renting of art in the public and private domains.
The ARTIQ team is creative and diverse, consisting of experts in installation, curation, artist liaison, logistics and arts marketing. The company works in the UK and internationally and represents some of the most exciting and dynamic up-and-coming artists and established talents, as well as having access to collections from institutions including The National Gallery, The National Portrait Gallery and The British Library.
Giving artists not only great exposure, but a fair deal, is key to the company’s ethos, ensuring that clients become not only art collectors, but art patrons too.
Hiscox is an international insurance group listed on the London Stock exchange and headquartered in Bermuda. We employ 3,100 staff across 14 countries and 34 offices.
We’re not only a major insurer of art, but, for around 40 years we’ve been collectors and enablers of it as well. Our collection hangs in our offices around the world and we believe it inspires our teams. We acquire works by living artists, and also from time to time sponsor public exhibitions and college prizes which is why we are so pleased to be supporting Artiq at this year’s “Queer Frontiers” digital art exhibition for Pride in 2020.
“Celebrating Pride means different things to each of us especially at these strange times. For me it’s about accepting who you are and cherishing all that makes you unique and special. Please enjoy the exhibition and have fun participating in the Pride events this year.”
Kate Markham, CEO Hiscox London Market.
